It can be tough to know ,whether or not your child is angling for time with you , such as requisite perks of being sick , extra cuddles etc,.
Here is a quick guide to when you should keep your child at home .
- Fever :This is one symptom that automatically rules out school , no questions. Your sick child should be fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours before sending him/her back to school .
- Diarrhoea : This could be a sign of viral infection .It is very important to keep rehydrating the child at regular intervals and the best way to do that is by keeping him/her at home .
- Vomiting : Aside from the fact that your child won't be comfortable , he/she could vomit again . Keep them home until the child feels comfortable .
- Cough : Coughs can spread the infection to other students . If your child has severe cough accompanied by breathing troubles , call the doctor .
- Rashes : Skin rashes could be contagious . You should have a rash evaluated by the doctor before sending him/her to school .
- Pink eye or Conjunctivitis : This infection spreads quickly from one child to another , which already parents of grade school age children know too well .Keep your child home until the doctor says he is no longer contagious .
- Stomach ache : If the child doesn't have diarrhoea or isn't constipated , tummy pain could be from many number of things from anxiety to food poisoning .If the stomach pain seems minor and he/she has no other symptoms you can send the child to school .
- Ear infection : As with cough you should evaluate all the symptoms . If he /she is clearly uncomfortable , he will have trouble concentrating in class anyway and should be kept at home .
- Runny nose : If you keep your child home every time he/she sneezes , he/she would miss a lot of school .So use your judgement .
